Mastering 10’s counting - Activity

17-Jul-2026

Our classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students were divided into different interactive learning zones. Students were given paper tumblers with hidden tens written underneath. After a thorough shuffle, they had to work together to decode the numbers and arrange them in the perfect chronological order of tens.

Our classrooms were buzzing with excitement as students were divided into different interactive learning zones:

  • The Shuffle & Stack Challenge: Students were given paper tumblers with hidden tens written underneath. After a thorough shuffle, they had to work together to decode the numbers and arrange them in the perfect chronological order of tens.
  • Pyramid Builders: Taking the tumbler challenge a step further, groups of children used their focus and motor skills to stack the numbered paper tumblers into impressive 10s counting pyramids, reinforcing both mathematical order and structural balance!
  • Bundle & Count with Straws: To truly grasp the concept of "Ten as a Unit," students worked with physical straws. By grouping exactly 10 straws into single, neat bundles, they visually and physically counted by tens, bridging the gap between units and larger number blocks.
